The obligatory Shanghai photo in front of Pudong. That building in the distance on the right is China's tallest, the Jin Mao tower. The Shanghai Acquarium is that white-roofed building just above the river line on the left. And of course the giant red condom-shaped building in the middle is the Oriental Pearl Tower. Pudong New Area is a district of Shanghai, China. Since the beginning of its development in 1990 when plans were first announced, Pudong has emerged as China's financial and commercial hub. Pudong is home to the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone and a skyline that includes the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Jin Mao Tower, symbolic of Shanghai and China's economic development.

Album: Shanghai -- View from the top of Jin Mao Tower

(not my photo) Pudong means "east of the river". Only about 10% of Shanghai lives here. Twenty years ago it was mostly a field. Puxi (west of the river) is where most live and most of old cultural buildings are located.
